Rough House<\/b>\u00a0devises and produces innovative works for theatre that playfully examine the paradoxes of contemporary culture. Artistic Directors Candelario Andrade and Camille Gingras utilize their multimedia design and playwriting skills to construct vital, thought-provoking productions<\/span>, which actively aim to connect diverse audiences to the humanity of live performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

History
\nIn 2008, Rough House<\/b>\u2019s debut production Tiny Apocalypse <\/i>was a one-woman show that scrutinized the surreal banalities and submerged hysteria of office life in a world shaped and monitored by surveillance. It premiered at Rumble\u2019s Tremors Festival where it was awarded a Jessie Richardson theatre award for Outstanding Lighting Design as well as being <\/b>nominated for \u00a0Outstanding Production, Direction, Performance, Sound Design and<\/span> Significant Achievement In Video Design. <\/span><\/p>\n

In 2010, Smile! You\u2019re on Camera <\/i>investigated issues of police harassment and state surveillance in collaboration with 33-at-risk youth participants from Leave Out Violence (LOVE) BC. It was produced in partnership with Neworld Theatre and LOVE BC and presented as a <\/span>6-hour durational performance at Car Free Day on Main Street (2010)<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2012, A Last Resort <\/i>experimented with the form of the travelogue to engage in an intimate biographical conversation about displacement and migration<\/span>. <\/span>Produced in partnership with Rumble and Shadbolt Centre, A Last Resort<\/i> was presented at Free Fall Festival, Toronto; Tremors Festival, Vancouver; Shadbolt Centre, Burnaby; and was nominated for a Jessie Richardson award for Outstanding Original Script.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2016,\u00a0for\u00a0Three Lectures on The North,<\/em>\u00a0Theatre Replacement<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Rough House Productions<\/strong>, commissioned three speeches on the subject of\u00a0Canada<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0North.\u00a0<\/strong>Words were woven together and partnered with instructions for how they should have been delivered.<\/em>\u00a0It was presented at the Shadbolt Centre for the Art and featured the writing of\u00a0Marie Clements<\/strong>,\u00a0Clare Duffy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0James Long<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

ARTISTIC DIRECTORS
\n<\/b><\/span>Born and raised in M\u00e9xico, Candelario Andrade <\/b>has designed multimedia for theatre, music and dance performances in M\u00e9xico and Vancouver. Now based in Vancouver, BC, Cande has designed for companies such as Horseshoes and Hand Grenades,<\/b>\u00a0Theatre Replacement, <\/b>Electric Company, <\/b>Neworld, <\/b>Rumble Productions, <\/b>Leaky Heaven,<\/b> Conspiracy Theatre, <\/b>Boca del Lupo,<\/b> Real Wheels, <\/b>Urban Ink, <\/b>Headlines Theatre <\/b>and Pi Theatre. In 2010, he collaborated with Berlin-based company Rimini Protokoll <\/b>for whom he did the video design for Best Before, <\/i>which premiered at PuSh Festival and toured internationally. For Rough House, Cande did video design for Tiny Apocalypse<\/i>, was a multimedia artist facilitator for Smile! You\u2019re On Camera <\/i>and co-created and designed A Last Resort.<\/i>\u00a0Currently he is an independent promo producer at Knowledge Network.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Born in Venezuela, Camille Gingras <\/b>grew up in Argentina, Scotland and Canada before living\u00a0in England for twelve years. She holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Theatre at Kent University, studied at Desmond Jones’ School of Mime and Physical Theatre, \u00a0and received an MA (Distinction) in Playwriting at Birmingham University. In Canada, Camille has devised new performances with some of BC\u2019s most adventurous companies. Selected credits include: Leaky Heaven\u2019s To Wear A Heart So White; <\/i>The Chop\u2019s Kismet one to one hundred<\/i>; Boca Del Lupo The Suicide, <\/i>(Recipient of the Alcan award); Theatre Replacement <\/b>and Rumble Productions\u2019<\/b> Clark and I Somewhere in Connecticut<\/i>, which premiered at PuSh <\/b>and was awarded the <\/b>Vancouver Critics\u2019 Innovation award. For Rough House, Camille conceived and created Tiny Apocalypse; <\/i>she was lead artistic facilitator for Smile! You\u2019re on Camera<\/i>;\u00a0<\/i>and co-created A Last Resort <\/i>with Candelario Andrade.<\/span><\/p>\n
